To mark 50th anniversary our Central Services held a Thanksgiving celebration Hansel-style.

There was a pot luck lunch with more USA themed food than we could hope to eat - hotdogs, apple pie, stars and stripes cheesecake, sweet potato casserole, Cajun chicken, corn on the cob, root beer hard candy...

When (eventually) we could eat no more we exposed our woeful lack of knowledge and shameful competitiveness in a USA based quiz. Congratulations to Claire who carried her team to victory with her ability to recite the states - in answer to every question! Thanks to score-keeper Ali and quiz-master Sherriff Wilson who just about managed to maintain law and disorder.

After that it was doors open as we welcomed customers and team members from across the organisation for the afternoon's entertainment. Frank and Dougie, half of local band Rough Cut, were the biggest hit. They had us dancing in the aisles to a string of American classics before coming home to Scotland with the Proclaimers 'I'm Gonna Be (500 miles)' to round off a fantastic set. You can catch the full band at the King's Arms in Fenwick this Saturday (30/11/13).

Amid all the fun we did set aside some time for reflection and thanksgiving. Everyone was asked to write a message on our Thanksgiving tree and donate to the relief fund for the Philippines. Messages included:

"Thanks for a fab 20 years. Thanks to my colleagues and everyone involved with Hansel."
"I'm so thankful for working alongside such great people!"

"So thankful for Lindy and the family. Without them, none of us would be here."

"Hansel is the place to work, support great people."

Thanks to everyone who worked so hard to make this event happen and especially to Frank and Dougie. Let's not wait 50 years to do it again!
