Voluntary Board positions available at Hansel

27 January, 2022

Since our beginnings almost 60 years ago Hansel has been at the forefront of innovation in developing supports for adults with learning disabilities and/or living with autism.  The organisation continues to grow and evolve with the active participation of the people we work for and in partnership with others who share our commitment to supporting the best outcomes possible. We currently have rewarding non-executive and committee member opportunities available to help us continue to do that.

Hansel Managing Director, Gerry Lindsay said “The non-executive director team at Hansel make a significant contribution to the organisation’s success, bringing a breadth of work and life knowledge and experience that is invaluable to our journey as a local charity.  Although the primary responsibility of our non-executive directors, as charity trustees, is to oversee Hansel’s governance and strategy, we welcome the commitment from them to proactively engage with all our people; members of our management team, front-line team members, and most importantly, people accessing support through the organisation’s services and activities.”

From Directors and management to front line team members and people who use Hansel services, everyone shares a common vision: to give people of all abilities the freedom to live the life they choose.

Jim McIntyre, Chair of Hansel Alliance and non-executive director of Hansel Foundation became involved with Hansel firstly through a corporate CSR day where he helped to paint Lindy’s tearoom. Jim said “I could see the quality of care and freedom Hansel were providing to people and I also experienced the fun they were having. I felt it would be great to be involved and applied to join in a voluntary non-executive director’s role.”

If you have the passion and the commitment to help Hansel achieve our goals we would be delighted to hear from you.  We are particularly interested in (but not exclusively looking for) people with significant experience, understanding and/or strong networks within:

  • Communications and PR
  • Construction and professional services
  • Employment and employability
  • Fundraising
  • Investment management
  • Public sector
  • Social Care
  • Social Enterprise

We would especially welcome individuals with experience as a carer; as a parent, sibling or with other family connections. The role of a Board or Co-opted Committee member is voluntary and unpaid other than reimbursement of approved travel costs or associated expenses.

If interested in expressing a wish to join the Hansel non-executive team please make contact in the first instance with Gerry Lindsay, Managing Director at gerry.lindsay@hansel.org.uk, to request an information pack or arrange an informal chat.  Alternatively, please leave your contact details with reception on 01563 830340 and Gerry will return your call.
