New Chairman for Hansel Foundation

Last updated: 10.51am, Wednesday 6th November 2013 by

Tom McClements is the new Chairman of Hansel Foundation. Tom, who has been a Non-Executive Director since 2004, is well known in the Ayrshire community and is a Trustee of Seagate Evangelical Church, Captain and secretary of Troon Merchants Golf Club and a director of the Junior Golf Plus, a Troon Churches Together initiative. He also runs Tuesdays at Ten, a club for the over fifties based at Seagate Church.

He said: “It is a really interesting time to take on the chairman’s role with both challenging times ahead for the charity and real opportunities to do innovative things like our 'Enterprising Minds, Changing Lives' project and the opening of Our Space, which will provide music, art and horticultural therapies for people with a wide range of support needs.

“There are big changes coming in the care sector with increasing emphasis on personalisation, the introduction of self directed support and the ongoing funding constraints impacting on the sector.

“Along with the other non-executive directors I will be working to support the staff team during these times to ensure Hansel continues to lead the way in offering support choices for those living with disabilities.”

One of Tom’s first tasks will be to encourage people to apply for Non-Executive roles on the Hansel Board. Anyone who is interested in finding out more should contact Gerry Lindsay (01563 830340).

Our sincere thanks go to outgoing Chairman, Alan Gillespie, who remains a Non-Executive Director. Alan's good humour, intellect and tireless enthusiasm have been invaluable over the past eight years and particularly in our very hectic 50th anniversary year.
