Nora Harris (83) proved she is a real super gran by completing our 5K Auchincruive Fun Run in her wheelchair, raising £168 for the Our Space Appeal.
Nora who lives in Abbeyfield Nursing Home in Irvine, completed the course in 49 minutes and 26 seconds despite the driving rain and the mud which could easily have put off a less determined person. She even managed to cross the finish line on foot with the aid of her zimmer!
Lynne Woods, a carer from Abbeyfield, said: “I run a Ladies Group and we regularly look at doing new things to help charities and the ladies thought a sponsored walk would be good. I volunteered and raised money for Abbeyfield and Nora was keen to help Hansel. It’s the first time Nora has ever taken part in a fun run and she had a great time. Her family came to see her and her grand-children made a banner for her. After the event, she even went to bed with her medal on – a great experience!”
Last week Nora presented her sponsorship money to our Fundraising Co-ordinator, Sheila McLean. Sheila said: “Nora is a real inspiration to all of us – when she came up to the final stretch of the run everyone just started cheering, it was such an emotional moment. We are so grateful to Nora and everyone else who took part and helped raise over £3,500.”
