Promoting the new National Health and Social Care Standards – My support, my life

Scotland is leading the way in developing unique and innovative standards for health and social care which have a strong focus on human rights and wellbeing. My support, my life, which will be implemented on 1 April 2018, sets out the standards people should expect when using any health or social care services.

They are underpinned by five principles: dignity and respect; compassion; be included; responsive care and support, and wellbeing and are based on five outcomes:
• I experience high quality care and support that is right for me.
• I am fully involved in all decisions about my care and support.
• I have confidence in the people who support and care for me.
• I have confidence in the organisation providing my care and support.
• I experience a high quality environment if the organisation provides the premises.

At Hansel we are embracing the introduction of the new standards and see them as an opportunity to build on our commitment to the Charter for Involvement which promotes greater engagement with customers.

We also feel this is an ideal opportunity to invest in building the confidence, knowledge and capacity of our workforce to ensure the new standards are swiftly adopted into our day to day practice and language.

In recognition of the importance of the new standards for our customers, their families and our team members we are launching a creative and colourful awareness raising campaign –‘ALIVE @Hansel’ – to get everyone thinking about what these radically new standards mean for them.

Customers and team members suggested a range of creative awareness and capacity building activities as part of the campaign planning consultation. These range from quirky engagement tools for customers, to themed workshops and reflective discussions for team members.

Customer campaign activities will be led by our Compass network and individual customers. Activities will include competitions, local awareness activities, website and twitter promotions, a My Life, My Way information road show display, and a ‘Have Your Say Wall’ in Lindy’s (the social enterprise tearoom in our Broadmeadows Estate).

Team member activities will include thematic workshops, local team awareness events, quirky knowledge quizzes and digital promotions.

Our ‘ALIVE @ Hansel’ campaign will run for the next six months. Keep an eye on our twitter account for regular updates! In the meantime have a look at some of colourful campaign materials!
