Hansel’s Ground Maintenance Team is celebrating a hat trick after being selected to look after the floral displays at Kilwinning railway station following their successful work at Prestwick and Stewarton as part of ScotRail’s ‘Adopt a Station’ initiative.
The team are part of our Work Choice and Specialist Employment Support Programme (part of the supply chain for Shaw Trust’s employment Support programme which support over 50,000 people with disabilities to find employment an live independently). They have been learning horticultural skills here at Broadmeadows for a number of months under the guidance of Bill Gerrie, Grounds Maintenance Coordinator and Sheena Johnston, Grounds Maintenance Assistant.
Adopt a Station is a great partnership which helps participants move into sustainable employment by enhancing their work history and CV while improving the environment for rail travellers. We are very grateful to ScotRail for their support and the team are looking forward to starting work at Kilwinning.
John Yellowlees, ScotRail’s Community Liaison Manager, added, “ScotRail’s adopt a station programme is about putting stations at the heart of their communities, and we are delighted that the Hansel Alliance has taken Prestwick Town, Stewarton and now Kilwinning Stations to its heart by creating and maintaining lovely floral displays to brighten our customers’ day.”
