Hansel Laundry Service receives £9,500 Lottery Funding

Last updated: 2.49pm, Friday 12th June 2020 by

We are delighted to tell you that the Hansel Laundry Service has received funding of £9,500 from The National Lottery Community Fund Scotland to allow us to purchase a new industrial washing machine.

Based at our Broadmeadows Estate in Symington, the Laundry Service operates as a social enterprise and provides employment to a number of people living with a learning disability. It offers a range of valued services to community households as well as larger organisations including hotels and nursing homes.

The funding of £9,500 from The National Lottery Community Fund, which distributes money raised by National Lottery players, will enable the business to replace the existing machine and increase capacity.

Carol Montgomery, Head of Hansel 3e (Employment, Education & Enterprise), said, “We’re delighted that despite these challenging times we have been successful in securing funding and been able to continue to service customers following the Government’s safety guidelines.

“We are incredibly grateful to the National Lottery and have ambitious plans to extend our services within the community going forward. The Laundry plays a vital role in providing employability opportunities for our customers and we are keen to expand that. Companies have also been terrific in continuing to support us with their business and again we are very thankful to them.”

During lockdown the laundry has continued to operate and also managed to help out ‘For the Love of Scrubs’ initiative by laundering the material used by the Ayrshire volunteers to make scrubs for NHS staff.

The National Lottery Community Fund’s Scotland Director, Neil Ritch, added, “I’d like to congratulate Hansel on its £9,500 award which has been made possible thanks to National Lottery players. We know that small amounts of funding can often make the biggest difference to local communities and never has this been so pertinent than in recent months. The grant will allow Hansel to maintain a vital service for those most in need now and in the future.”

From modest beginnings Hansel Laundry has grown to provide services to individuals, the local Ayrshire community, and businesses including leisure and construction companies.

As well as offering employment opportunities for people who have a disability, staff can gain valuable qualifications. To find out more about the services available at the Laundry contact 01563 830340 or email carol.montgomery@hansel.org.uk
