Hansel Services

As a Charity, Hansel has come a long way since we were founded in 1962. We have embraced flexibility and diversity in the manner in which we support people, and in the range and type of service we run. We believe that all who use our services are unique and individual and our range of services reflect this belief. We support people where, when and how they need it.

Our services include :
Residential accommodation and supported living : Our Person-centred Planning approach allows us to agree with people which type of housing and support they feel is right for them. It may be individual or shared tenancies, or small group residential accommodation, all in a variety of locations, throughout Ayrshire. In addition, we have a residential service, specifically focusing on people with learning disabilities and dementia, based on our Broadmeadows site.

Individual support : An absorbing and enjoyable social life is a fundamental characteristic of a meaningful life. We provide one-to-one support for people to enable them to fully participate in the social and economic life or their community, whether this is shopping, sports, or social activities. Friendships are important for everyone, so our service users also have access to small group activities, with their friends.

Short Breaks : Many carers have identified how vital respite is for them and for the person they care for. The location of this service, on our Broadmeadows site, provides the ideal gateway to the communities of Ayrshire, and to the cultural and social diversity of the West of Scotland.

Employment :The social networks, financial independence and sense of accomplishment from being in employment are important for us all, but are often a distant aspiration for many people with disabilities. We provide a range of tailored and articulated activities that support people from the stage of starting to think about employment (Personal Development Programme) through work placement (Work Preparation Programme) to Supported Employment (Workstep Programme).

The Fairway Project : Moving into adult life for many young disabled people and their families can be a confusing and anxious time. Fairway is Hansel Foundation's transition service which supports young disabled people at this challenging time of their lives. Fairway provides social inclusion opportunities through the use of peer mentors (non-disabled young people), and provides information and support for your people and their families through its professional facilitators. Fairway helps build circles of support for young disabled people to enable them to plan for their future and achieve their dreams and aspirations.
